One of my favourite Hove bars, it is perfectly small(ish) without being cosy. There's something happening every evening on weekdays: Monday is Jazz Forum, which is a jazz/jamming session; Tuesday is 'Sounds like Science', an electronic evening; Wednesday there's open mike; and on Thursdays a different band graces the bar for the evening. I can thoroughly recommend the jazz night, it's usually pretty packed out from about 9. The atmosphere is unpretentious and relaxed, with a mixed crowd, and there's a (mildly creepy/interesting) mannequin head with knitting needles coming out of its head spinning around on a turntable under the bar. There are three areas to sit in, and lots of different types of beers to choose from. Delicious!
Great bar, not stuffy or pretentious at all. This place is full of nooks and crannies which can make it a little difficult negotiating the place when it gets full, but worth it. I particularly like the back room; would have liked to squeze myself into the tiny shelf with space for two that looked like the kind of place that demanded intimacy......... alas it was already occupied and my date for the night would probably not have appreciated being stuck in their with me in any case! In any case the rest of the place is comfortable in a quirky kind of way.
Good cocktails and the usual bar appareil. Staff were friendly. Music was ecclectic. I hear that they do some great live sets there, but I cannot comment as there were none the night I was there. Nice to go whether it be for one on one socialising or for full on fun with a group.

Don't agree whatsoever, I would argue the exact opposite!
Very surprised by this..Staff here heve always been not just friendly, but very helpful and actually seem to care you are in their building, unlike most pubs - has always seemed a bit of a 'Cheers' vibe to me !
